Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

  • 12 cup short­en­ing
  • 12 cup but­ter
  • 1 12 cup sug­ar
  • 1 egg
  • 14 cup water
  • 1 tsp. vanil­la extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 cups 1‑minute oats
  • 12 cup cocoa
  • 12 tsp. bak­ing soda
  • 12 tsp. salt
  • 1 16-oz. pkg. choco­late chips

Pre­heat oven to 375°.

At medi­um speed, mix short­en­ing, but­ter, sug­ar, egg, water and vanil­la. 

In a sep­a­rate bowl, com­bine flour, oats, cocoa, bak­ing soda and salt. Add grad­u­al­ly to the oth­er ingre­di­ents; mix well.

Stir in choco­late chips by hand.

Drop about 1 12 inch­es apart on ungreased cook­ie sheet. Bake 10 — 12 min­utes. To check for done­ness, touch a cook­ie; it should spring back and leave almost no imprint.
